Mealime Is Shutting Down: An Exit Checklist for Any Meal Planner (2026)
Mealime's homepage says it will shut down on October 21, 2026. Why we left it out of the ranking, and a checklist for moving your recipes and plans.
Verdict: Mealime is excluded from the 2026 ranking because its homepage says it will shut down on October 21, 2026. If you use it, save your recipes, plans and shopping lists before that date, then apply the checklist below to whichever app you move to.
On 2026-10-16 we fetched the Mealime homepage. It carries a banner that reads “Mealime will shut down on October 21, 2026”, with a link labelled “See what’s next”. The date is in the future, so this page treats the shutdown as scheduled, not completed. We did not verify the details behind that link in this run. Treat this page as a checklist for leaving any app, not as Mealime’s own instructions.
In this post, a meal planner is a product that turns recipes into menus and lists. An export means a downloadable copy of recipes, meal plans or shopping lists. Cloud backup with a restore to a new device is not an export.
What the banner does and does not say
The banner gives the closing date and the link. It does not give an export format or describe what happens to saved data. Do not rely on secondhand summaries of Mealime’s exit terms. Check the company’s own pages, and keep your own copy of anything you cannot rebuild.
Why an exit path belongs in the score
Our ranking gives 15 of 100 points to data export and shutdown safeguards. A meal planner holds recipes collected over years and household plans that are slow to rebuild. We give the highest score to a documented export together with a published shutdown notice. Across the eight apps in the 2026 ranking, seven had no documented export we could verify.
What each app documents for leaving
“Not verified” means we did not find the item on the pages we read. It does not mean the vendor offers nothing. The settings and help-center pages for export have not all been checked for every app, so this column is a limit of the 2026.10 edition, not a finding about each product.
| app | export documented | backup and restore documented | basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mealime | not verified | not verified | homepage banner: shutdown on 2026-10-21 |
| Plan to Eat | not verified | not verified | pricing and feature text, 2026-10-16 |
| AnyList | not verified | yes: cloud backup, restore to a new device | Complete page, 2026-10-16 |
| Eat This Much | not verified | not verified | pricing page, 2026-10-16 |
| Cozi | not verified | not verified | homepage, 2026-10-16 |
| eMeals | not verified | not verified | homepage and help center, 2026-10-16 |
| Samsung Food | not verified | not verified | App Store and help-center summaries, 2026-10-16 |

How the exit score works
The export and shutdown dimension carries 15 of the 100 points, and it has four bands. A 5 needs a documented export of recipes, plans and lists plus a published shutdown notice. A 3 means the company documents a backup and restore but no export, which is the band AnyList earns. A 1 means the export covers only part of the data. A 0 means no documented export was found, which describes seven of the eight apps in this edition. The bands describe the published paperwork. They are not a judgement about anyone’s intentions.
Checklist for any meal planner
- Find the export. Look in settings or the help center for a way to download recipes, meal plans and shopping lists. Write down the format.
- Test with one recipe. Export a single recipe and open it outside the app. If you cannot read the file, the export is not useful yet.
- Save shopping lists. A list is short and quick to copy by hand, so copy the current week’s list first.
- Check cloud backup. Some apps back up to their servers and restore to a new device. AnyList documents that. A restore is not an export, so keep your own copy too.
- Read the deletion section. Find how to delete your account, and what the policy says happens to your data afterwards.
- Note the notice period. Record the date you learned of the closure and the date the service stops.
- Date your copy. Keep a dated folder with exports and screenshots of your plans.
Run the steps in this order. A test export shows a gap while there is still time to act on it.
Choosing a replacement
Start with the cost and privacy columns in the ranking, not with marketing copy. Plan to Eat’s pricing page says its trial needs no credit card and runs for 14 days. AnyList’s Complete page sets out its meal calendar and cloud backup. Eat This Much’s free plan generates daily meal plans. Each of those statements comes from the vendor’s own page, so reread it before you sign up, because pages change.
A trial that asks for a card is not a problem by itself, but it changes how easily you can walk away if the replacement does not suit your household. Note the cancellation route before you start, not after the first charge.
What we do not know
We have not verified what happens to saved recipes or account data after 2026-10-21. Treat any statement about that as unverified until Mealime’s own page confirms it. We also did not verify Mealime’s export options, and no Mealime account was opened.

FAQ
Why is Mealime not in the 2026 ranking?
Mealime's homepage states that it will shut down on October 21, 2026. We rank only products in active operation on the evaluation date, so Mealime is excluded and appears here only as a shutdown case.
Can I still export my data from Mealime?
We did not verify Mealime's export options in this run. The homepage banner links to a page labelled 'See what's next', and we did not read that page's contents. Read it directly, and save your recipes, plans and shopping lists before the closing date.
What should I look for in a replacement app?
Look for a documented export, a current privacy policy whose sale and sharing section you can read, and a trial that does not need a card if you want to test before paying. Plan to Eat's pricing page says its trial needs no credit card. Check the same point for any app you choose.
